Today in COMM 210 my teacher told us to be thinking about our next topic for our LAST SPEECH :)
Usually it takes days to figure out what I could stand to write/talk about. But there has always been a subject that i have believed in but it's defiantly a tricky subject.
I have always been confused with the thought that cigarettes are legal, but not wearing a seatbelt is not legal. This is weird to me because if someone chooses not to wear a seat-belt, the only person they would be hurting is themselves right? But if someone smokes, the smoker is giving everyone around them second hand smoke. They're giving it to people who are breathing smoke in not by choice. This doesn't seem quite right to me. idk. It's a good subject when thinking broadly about it, but it can turn to be very tricky real quick when using examples past the two I provided. I don't know. Food for thought?
This is interesting. It really made me think while I was reading it. I've never really thought about this but you were right about the second hand smoke.
ReplyDeleteYah but it gets real tricky because as long as incorporations are making cigarettes, you still have to allow people to have the freedom to do/buy/smoke what they want. I could get into the subject of which is "safer" also by bringing in marijuana. Some higher-ups on a police force would prefer to have alcohol illegal and marijuana legal because pot heads are chill where drunken people are crazy. That would tie in because drunk people do more harm to others than pot heads have done. Idk please give me your guy's thoughts on the subject! :)
